PROJECT 80

BOAT HISTORY: This clean, freshwater, low hour, all-original, 1968 Classic Boston Whaler Nauset was acquired in NW Washington State from the second owner. She was purchased new in Central Michigan in 1968 where the original owner used her for an annual 2-week fishing trip to Canada until 1981. The original owner brought her to Idaho in 1981 where she was sparingly used on small Idaho lakes until she was sold to the second owner in 2019. The second owner brought her to NW Washington, where she was just used a handful of times. This Nauset was never kept in the water overnight and always stored in a heated garage for her entire life. She has not been modified in any way and retains all her original components.
BOAT CONDITION: This Classic Boston Whaler Nauset 16 is in excellent original condition. The interior mahogany is in fantastic condition with a nice gloss to the marine varnish. All chrome, stainless-steel fittings and hardware are in excellent condition with no rust, corrosion, or pitting. The original interior/exterior gelcoat is in remarkable condition with no crazing that many older Classic Boston Whalers develop. She has never seen bottom paint.
MODEL HISTORY: The Classic Boston Whaler Nauset model was introduced in 1960 and there began the center console revolution in the boating industry. Prior to the Classic Boston Whaler 16’ center consoles (Nauset, Sakonnet, Eastport), the center console design did not exist in the boating industry.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: Classic Boston Whaler Nauset interiors came standard with a mahogany fixed pilot seat, mahogany center console with windshield and mahogany bow locker cover. Nausets also came standard with a set of stainless-steel side railings, chrome over brass bow light, stern light brackets, and stainless-steel pole stern light.
EXTRA OPTIONS: This Classic Boston Whaler Nauset also has the factory optioned bow light/chock rope guard assembly, Wm J Mills canvas mooring cover, Wm J Mills forward canvas shelter (dodger), and Wm J Mills suntop (bimini). She is further optioned with a 24-gallon fuel tank under the pilot seat.
PROPULSION: She is equipped with a 1995 Mercury ELPTO 3-cylinder 75hp outboard with automatic oil injection, hydraulic power trim/tilt, and electric start/choke. A full Mercury Quicksilver gauge package is also installed to include tachometer, voltmeter, hour meter, and ignition key switch/safety lanyard. She is equipped with the classic Morse MT-3 single lever engine control with red control knob. The Mercury was only used for a few seasons before being winterized and placed into storage. The motor is equipped with an hour meter clearly displaying only 140.3 hours of use since new! The motor has 120 psi compression across all 3 cylinders and operates/looks in new condition. The Mercury inline 3-cylinders have a reputation as one of Mercury’s best outboards ever produced with excellent power/weight ratio. The Mercury has been fully serviced (water pump, spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel/water separator, carb clean/sync, and gear oil) and is excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition with zero rust/corrosion and retains glossy original paint.
TRAILER: She is fitted to a 2001 EZ Loader galvanized trailer in excellent condition.
TDC MARINE COMMENTS: This is one nice Nauset! The gelcoat still retains her original high gloss finish and the mahogany shines. It is easy to tell that this Classic Boston Whaler Nauset has seen limited use and stored inside. All original, Nauset models which retain all their original features, have not been modified or abused, are quite difficult to come by. This Nauset is very striking and will surely be the center of attention wherever she goes. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to own this truly wonderful Nauset 16 in excellent condition with an extremely low hour motor.
As always, these boats go fast; contact TDC Marine for inquiries about this project, or another Classic Boston Whaler model.
