PROJECT 74
BOAT HISTORY: This all-original 1968 Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet was acquired from the family of the original owner in central Massachusetts. She has been stored inside under cover for her entire life and hasn’t been registered or used since 1993. The Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet was used exclusively on New Hampshire lakes near Conway for two weeks a summer during family vacations. She has never seen saltwater and was always trailered.
MODEL HISTORY: The Classic Boston Whaler 16’ hull was introduced in 1960 and began the center console revolution in the boating industry. Prior to this, the center console design did not exist. According to the Boston Whaler catalog, the Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet (produced 1962-1975) was "a luxuriously practical sport fishing vehicle.” The ultra-popular Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet model outlived its two sisters, the Classic Boston Whaler Nauset and the Classic Boston Whaler Eastport, by two model years.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: For a $1,070 premium over the bare hull, the customer received bow and stern lights, a mahogany reversible pilot seat with cabinets, bow casting platform, center console and windshield, mechanical steering, Morse MT-2 single lever engine control, stainless bow rails, stern light and bow light/chock.
PROPULSION: She was repowered in 1980 with a Mercury 4-cylinder 80hp outboard with power trim/tilt, and electric start/choke. Our current intention is to remove the 1980 Mercury even though she is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition and repower with a late model Evinrude E-TEC or Yamaha outboard.
TRAILER: She sits on a Shoreline heavy duty galvanized trailer in excellent condition with no rust or corrosion.
BOAT CONDITION: This particular 1968 Sakonnet is an excellent example of an all-original Classic Boston Whaler that hasn’t been modified or abused. She has never been in salt water, has been well cared for, and lovingly maintained.
TDC COMMENTS: All original, freshwater Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet models that have not been modified or abused are quite difficult to come by. This gorgeous girl draws significant attention, and we know she will make someone very happy.

PROJECT 73
(photos posting soon)
BOAT HISTORY: We located this two-owner, freshwater, all-original Classic Boston Whaler Montauk near Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was purchased factory-new from a BW dealer near Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was used exclusively on Lake Michigan by the first owner and Lake Erie by the second owner. She has never seen saltwater or spent a night in the water. She has always been stored inside on her original Holsclaw trailer. She has been unused in storage for the past 18 years.
MODEL HISTORY: The Classic Boston Whaler Montauk is perhaps the most recognizable and iconic model that Boston Whaler has ever produced. The highly desirable 17' hull, paired with a center console, provides a platform ideal for inshore or offshore fishing while affording ample interior room to cruise with the family or for watersports.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: The Classic Boston Whaler Montauk came equipped standard with 10" stainless steel side railings, full bow railing, reversible pilot seat with bottom cushion, Perko combination bow light/chock assembly, Ritchie Navigator, stainless steel pole stern light, and Schmitt stainless-steel steering wheel.
EXTRA OPTIONS: This Classic Boston Whaler Montauk was optioned through Boston Whaler with a 72qt Igloo cooler with seat cushion forward of the console.
PROPULSION: She is equipped with a 1996 Evinrude V4 88hp outboard equipped with power trim/tilt, electric start/choke, tachometer, trim/tilt gauge, and battery voltmeter. The motor has less than 100 hours since new and 120 psi compression across all 4 cylinders. The OMC V-4 motors are known for their reliability and are highly desirable for the classic 17’ hull due to their very high power/weight ratio. The V-4s have a reputation as one of OMC’s best outboards ever produced. The Evinrude has been fully serviced and is excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition with zero rust/corrosion and still has the glossy original paint.
TRAILER: The original Holsclaw heavy duty trailer is in excellent condition.
BOAT CONDITION: This Classic Boston Whaler Montauk is a rare find in such amazing condition. Her gelcoat shines just as on the day that she left the factory. The “green line” (check out our blog entry on this) at the seam of the hull and deck joint is perfect with zero separation. This Montauk is pretty much perfect, turnkey, and ready to be enjoyed today.
