PROJECT 74
BOAT HISTORY: This all-original 1968 Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet was acquired from the family of the original owner in central Massachusetts. She has been stored inside under cover for her entire life and hasn’t been registered or used since 1993. The Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet was used exclusively on New Hampshire lakes near Conway for two weeks a summer during family vacations. She has never seen saltwater and was always trailered.
MODEL HISTORY: The Classic Boston Whaler 16’ hull was introduced in 1960 and began the center console revolution in the boating industry. Prior to this, the center console design did not exist. According to the Boston Whaler catalog, the Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet (produced 1962-1975) was "a luxuriously practical sport fishing vehicle.” The ultra-popular Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet model outlived its two sisters, the Classic Boston Whaler Nauset and the Classic Boston Whaler Eastport, by two model years.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: For a $1,070 premium over the bare hull, the customer received bow and stern lights, a mahogany reversible pilot seat with cabinets, bow casting platform, center console and windshield, mechanical steering, Morse MT-2 single lever engine control, stainless bow rails, stern light and bow light/chock.
PROPULSION: She was repowered in 1980 with a Mercury 4-cylinder 80hp outboard with power trim/tilt, and electric start/choke. Our current intention is to remove the 1980 Mercury even though she is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition and repower with a late model Evinrude E-TEC or Yamaha outboard.
TRAILER: She sits on a Shoreline heavy duty galvanized trailer in excellent condition with no rust or corrosion.
BOAT CONDITION: This particular 1968 Sakonnet is an excellent example of an all-original Classic Boston Whaler that hasn’t been modified or abused. She has never been in salt water, has been well cared for, and lovingly maintained.
TDC COMMENTS: All original, freshwater Classic Boston Whaler Sakonnet models that have not been modified or abused are quite difficult to come by. This gorgeous girl draws significant attention, and we know she will make someone very happy.
As always, these boats go fast; contact TDC Marine for inquiries about this project, or another Classic Boston Whaler.
