BOAT HISTORY: We acquired this beautiful 1988 Boston Whaler Outrage 18 from its second owner near Memphis, Tennessee. The original owner purchased the boat new in 1989 in Buford, Georgia, on Lake Lanier, and retained ownership until selling it to a friend in 2010. Throughout its life, the Outrage was stored indoors in a barn, covered and resting on its trailer when not in use. She was never kept in the water overnight or stored outdoors. Her use has been limited exclusively to Lake Lanier and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, and she has never seen saltwater.
BOAT CONDITION: The original condition of this classic Boston Whaler is incredible, as evidenced by the rich, glossy gelcoat, beautifully preserved teak trim, and soft original upholstery. All chrome and stainless-steel fittings and hardware remain in excellent condition, with no rust, corrosion, or pitting. The original interior and exterior gelcoat are in remarkable condition, without the crazing commonly found on older Whalers. Having never been left in the water, the hull has never received bottom paint. The entire package is a “10” and represents the very best a classic Boston Whaler Outrage 18 has to offer.
MODEL HISTORY: The Outrage 18 (1981–1990) is a true classic among the many models produced by Boston Whaler. The hull retained the refined bow lines and classic “smirk,” formed by carrying the running strakes upward and across the bow. The resulting Outrage 18 hull provides excellent lateral stability while offering a substantially improved ride through waves and chop compared with the 17-foot hull. The Outrage 18 was designed to operate in big waves and open water, with the capability for offshore fishing and cruising. The cockpit differs slightly from those of smaller Whaler models, with greater freeboard and a deeper cockpit.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: Standard Outrage 18 features include a center console with teak access doors, dash panel, locks, Plexiglas windscreen, stainless-steel steering wheel, switch panel with two pre-wired accessory switches, fuses and bus bar, and stainless-steel console rail; 63-gallon fuel tank; stainless-steel bow rail; two swivel seats; recessed aft cleats with hawsepipes; rod racks; pair of flush-mounted rod holders; bow locker with fiberglass cover; teak gunwale boards; international navigation lights; fire extinguisher; bow bitt; lifting eyes; battery box with hold-down strap; and heavy-duty rub rail.
The cockpit features the standard Whaler center console and offered a choice of seating arrangements, principally the standard twin swivel seats, optional teak Reversible Pilot Seat, or optional leaning post. A full-width upholstered bench seat could be ordered to provide additional seating in the stern, while a cooler seat and bow cushions could augment seating forward of the console.
The Outrage 18 was one of the smallest Boston Whaler models to offer an integral fuel system. Its generous 63-gallon fuel capacity provided the range necessary for extended trips without frequent refueling.
FACTORY OPTIONS: Factory options on this 1988 Outrage 18 include full fiberglass gunwales with non-skid, recessed teak fire extinguisher pocket, Igloo 86-quart cooler with cushion and mahogany deck-mounted cooler chocks, console rod holders with backrest cushions, Wm. J. Mills suntop (bimini), and Wm. J. Mills console cover. Additional options include a Lowrance Elite 9Ti GPS chartplotter/fishfinder, Standard Horizon VHF-FM marine radio with 8-foot antenna, and full custom boat cover with integrated motor hood.
PROPULSION: She is equipped with her original, highly desirable, very low-hour 1989 Yamaha 150-hp 6-cylinder two-stroke Precision Blend outboard motor, featuring electric start/choke, power tilt/trim, and factory Yamaha multifunction tachometer and fuel management gauge. The 6-cylinder Yamaha 150s are known for their exceptional reliability and are highly desirable for the classic 18' Outrage hull due to their excellent power-to-weight ratio. These two-stroke 150s have earned a reputation as some of Yamaha's finest large outboard motors ever produced.
The Yamaha has been fully serviced and is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, with zero rust or corrosion and glossy original factory paint. Compression is a consistent 120 psi across all six cylinders, and the motor looks and operates like new. Comprehensive servicing includes the water pump, spark plugs, thermostats, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel supply lines, fuel/water separator, carburetor cleaning and synchronization, and gear oil.
When properly maintained, these motors can provide many years of reliable operation and enjoyment. The Yamaha 150-hp two-stroke is still produced overseas today, highlighting its longstanding reliability and reputation. Replacement parts remain abundant and readily available.
TRAILER: She is fitted to a custom galvanized Shoreline bunk trailer with keel rollers, in excellent condition.
