BOAT HISTORY: We acquired this 1988 Classic Boston Whaler Outrage 18 from its third owner in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. She has been lift- or rack-kept on Cape Cod since new, entering the water only when in use. She has seen limited use throughout her life.
BOAT CONDITION: She remains in very nice, original, unmodified condition, with no history of damage or repairs. Her teak trim is solid and well-preserved, as is her original interior upholstery. The original interior and exterior gelcoat retain an attractive shine, without the crazing commonly found on older Boston Whalers. Her hull bottom was recently soda-blasted to remove the existing bottom paint, then barrier-coated and top-coated to ensure the bottom is protected if kept in the water.
MODEL HISTORY: The Outrage 18 (1981–1990) is a true classic among the many models produced by Boston Whaler. The hull retained the refined bow lines and classic "smirk," formed by carrying the runners upward and across the bow. The resulting Outrage 18 hull provides excellent lateral stability while offering a substantially improved ride through waves and chop compared with the 17-foot hull. The Outrage 18 was designed to operate in big waves and big water, with the capability to go offshore and fish in the ocean. The cockpit also differs slightly from those of smaller Whaler models, with greater freeboard and a deeper cockpit.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: Standard Classic Boston Whaler Outrage 18 features include a console with teak access doors, dash panel, locks, Plexiglas windscreen, stainless-steel steering wheel, switch panel with two pre-wired accessory switches, fuses and buss bar, and stainless-steel console rail; 63-gallon fuel tank; stainless-steel bow rail; two swivel seats; recessed aft cleats with hawsepipe; rod racks; pair of flush-mounted rod holders; bow locker with fiberglass cover; teak gunwale boards; international navigation lights; fire extinguisher; bow bitt; lifting eyes; battery box with hold-down strap; and heavy-duty rub rail.
The cockpit features the standard Whaler center console and offered a choice of seating arrangements, principally the standard twin swivel seats, optional teak Reversible Pilot Seat, or optional leaning post. A full-width upholstered bench seat could be ordered to provide additional seating in the stern, while a cooler seat and bow cushions could augment seating forward of the console.
The Outrage 18 was one of the smallest boats to offer an integral fuel system. Its generous 63-gallon fuel capacity gave the Outrage 18 the ability to make long trips without refueling.
EXTRA OPTIONS: Factory options on this 1988 Outrage 18 include the reversible pilot seat with cushioned base, Ritchie Navigator flush-mounted lighted compass, recessed teak fire extinguisher pocket, Igloo 94-quart cooler with cushion and mahogany deck-mounted cooler chocks, console rod holders with backrest cushions, and fiberglass gunwales with non-skid. Additional options include a full boat cover and new Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 GPS chartplotter/fishfinder.
PROPULSION: Originally rigged with a 1988 Johnson 150-hp outboard, she was repowered in 2012 with a highly desirable Evinrude E-TEC 150-hp high-pressure, direct fuel-injected, electric-start outboard with power trim/tilt, BRP SystemCheck gauge, and a full set of OMC/BRP gauges (tachometer, speedometer, trim position, and battery ammeter).
The Evinrude E-TECs have an excellent power-to-weight ratio, are very simple to maintain, and are as quiet as or quieter than four-stroke outboards, with lower emissions than a four-stroke. The motor has been expertly maintained, remains in excellent condition, and runs like new. When properly maintained, these motors will provide many years of reliable operation and enjoyment.
The 150-hp E-TEC offers the best power-to-weight ratio and technology of all available outboards for the classic 18' Outrage hull.
TRAILER: She is fitted to a new 2027 aluminum Load Rite articulating bunk (AB) trailer, model LR-AB203100102.
TDC COMMENTS: This is a very nice example of an original, unmodified Classic Boston Whaler Outrage 18, featuring newer Evinrude E-TEC power and a brand-new aluminum Load Rite trailer. For anyone seeking a classic Boston Whaler 18' Outrage for sale, this well-preserved example offers an excellent combination of originality, desirable propulsion, and modern trailer equipment. She will be ready to provide many years of enjoyment on the water.
