1970 Nauset

PROJECT 82

(contact us for additional photos)

BOAT HISTORY: We located this clean, freshwater, low-hour, classic 1970 Boston Whaler Nauset 16 outside Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, and acquired her from the second owner. She was purchased new in Minnesota in 1970, where the original owner used her for an annual two-week fishing trip to Canada. The second owner used her sparingly on the St. Croix River. She was never kept in the water overnight and was always stored in a heated garage. She is in exceptional condition and retains all her original components.

BOAT CONDITION: This Classic Boston Whaler Nauset 16 is in excellent original condition. The interior and exterior gelcoat are remarkably well-preserved and retain an exceptional high-gloss finish. The interior mahogany is in excellent condition, with a beautiful gloss to the marine varnish. All chrome and stainless-steel fittings and hardware remain in excellent condition, with no rust, corrosion, or pitting. She has never been kept in the water and has never received bottom paint.

MODEL HISTORY: The Boston Whaler Nauset was introduced in 1960 and began the center-console revolution in the boating industry. Prior to the introduction of the Boston Whaler 16' center-console models (Nauset, Sakonnet, and Eastport), the center-console design did not exist in the boating industry.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT: Nauset interiors came standard with a mahogany fixed pilot seat, mahogany center console with windshield, and mahogany bow locker cover. Standard equipment also included stainless-steel side railings, chrome-over-brass bow light, stern light brackets, and stainless-steel pole stern light.

EXTRA OPTIONS: This Nauset features the rare factory-optioned mahogany Reversible Pilot Seat, bow light/chock rope guard assembly, Wm. J. Mills canvas mooring cover, Wm. J. Mills forward canvas shelter (dodger), and Wm. J. Mills suntop (bimini) with zip-in windshield, side curtains, and aft curtain enclosure. Additional options include an installed bilge pump and 12-gallon fuel tank incorporated into the Reversible Pilot Seat cabinet.

PROPULSION: She is equipped with the holy grail of motors: a highly desirable, very low-hour 2002 Yamaha 90-hp inline 3-cylinder two-stroke outboard with Precision Blend oil injection, electric start/choke, power tilt/trim, and factory Yamaha multifunction tachometer and speedometer.

The 3-cylinder Yamaha 90s are known for their exceptional reliability and are highly desirable for the classic 16' Nauset hull due to their outstanding power-to-weight ratio. These two-stroke 90s have earned a reputation as some of Yamaha's finest outboard motors ever produced.

The Yamaha has been fully serviced and remains in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, with zero rust or corrosion and glossy original factory paint. The motor is equipped with an hour meter clearly displaying just 111 hours of use since new. Compression is a consistent 120 psi across all three cylinders, and the motor looks and operates in new condition.

Comprehensive servicing includes the water pump, spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel/water separator, carburetor cleaning and synchronization, and gear oil.

TRAILER: She is fitted to a 2006 Spartan galvanized trailer in excellent condition.

TDC COMMENTS: This is one exceptionally nice Classic Boston Whaler Nauset 16! The original gelcoat retains its beautiful high-gloss finish, and the mahogany shines. It is easy to see that this Nauset has experienced limited use and has been carefully stored indoors throughout her life.

Classic freshwater Nauset models that retain all their original features and have never been modified or abused are extremely difficult to find. This 1970 Nauset is particularly striking and is sure to be a conversation piece wherever she goes.

For anyone seeking a Classic Boston Whaler 16' Nauset for sale, don't miss the opportunity to own this exceptional example with its remarkably preserved original condition and extremely low-hour Yamaha 90-hp motor.

As always, these boats go fast. Contact TDC Marine for inquiries about this project or assistance locating another Classic Boston Whaler model.
